My son's newly formed soccer team needs to learn how to handle goal kicks

We had our first (sort of) travel team experience this past weekend. Played a series of scrimmages against a team from the town next door.on a basketball court at a boys & girls club, strangely enough.

Played 5 games, 22 minutes each with split squads against their split squads, including one session of an intrasquad scrimmage. Overall it went well, pretty competitive, except in one area.

Our team has never really played/practiced any set plays such as goal kicks and corner kicks. The person playing goalie rotated through most of the boys. Of the 12 or so goals given up on the day, 6 of them were when the goalie just casually put the ball back in play, a player from the other team pounced on it, and scored almost right away. And they kept doing it.

Oh well. It's a team of 7 year olds, playing their first game with real(ish) rules and a ref. I really like the coaching he's getting, and the team will be good, but they just haven't worked on that stuff. I bet they do at the next Friday session.
